How to turn your Mac startup chime back on

In 2016, Apple removed the distinctive startup chime from Macs. Yes, the startup chime was unnecessary and a little old-fashioned – and iPads certainly don’t start up with a chime – but it was a very Mac thing nonetheless.

A few days ago, AppleInsider had a post that describes how to bring it back, via a Terminal command:

sudo nvram StartupMute=%00

This seems to work on most Macs including my mid-2015 MacBook Pro 15″. I’m glad to have it back!
